Bernard Original F has a medium-coarse grind with a moist, oiled texture. The blend is pine-forward, with spruce and menthol as the primary notes, supported by camphor, molasses sweetness, and smoky undertones. The nicotine strength is medium.

The base uses schmalzler tobacco with added coniferous oils. The menthol note is mild and the pine character is strong. Tasting notes include earthy and spicy elements beneath the forest scent profile.

This snuff has a moderate to low level of nicotine, which allows all-day use without burn or drip issues. A relatively dry snuff from the tapbox, there is enough moisture to keep the snuff from sticking to your fingers in a powdery mess, but not much more. The tobacco is a mocha brown leaning towards a richer dark brown. The grind is fine, but not as fine as some English type snuffs. This is a nice, lean towards medium, which helps this snuff sit well in the nose. The light menthol helps to shield any burn of the nicotine, which, when paired with the easy-to-pinch grind and moisture content, makes this snuff an easy-to-enjoy snuff.

This snuff is a lightly scented option that serves as an excellent stepping stone into mentholated fruit snuffs. The nose is met by light notes of both apricot, which has a touch of sweetness. This is wrapped in just the lightest touch of menthol, which carries with it the scent of apricot. In place of competing scents, the fruit and menthol play off one another in a way that lets the notes linger for a good measure. These notes eventually fade into a very mild tobacco muddled with apricot. The snuff is easy to hold in the hand due to its moisture content. The grind is uniform and presents with just a hint of fluff, which allows the scent and tobacco to hold in the nose easily.

The menthol helps prevent nasal burn with its cooling sensation, while not detracting from the apricot flavour. This snuff is a great way to introduce a mentholated fruit snuff that can be used throughout the day. If you are partial to fruit or menthol, you may still appreciate this snuff as it is not overtly sweet or candied like ALPINA or JBR Red. This is much less SUGAR APRICOT and more mellow notes of fruit and menthol that ride out into a subtle tobacco. Although I appreciate a more pronounced fruit and menthol presentation, this snuff does "light" in all the right ways; the melding of scents does not assault the nose and instead plays gently together. I could see this being an interesting blending option to round out other fruits or perhaps add a touch of sweetness to an earthy blend. Give this one a spot in your rotation for a trial; most will not be disappointed.
